SHOWS, COMPETITIONS, PARADES......

While other commercial dance schools (tap, ballet etc.) may have annual recitals, Irish Dance is different.  There is a great public demand for Irish dancers.  Our School will engage in performances throughout the entire year (with an understandable concentration in the months of February and March).  We engage in community service performances as well - nursing homes and non-profit organizations.

There are often opportunities to participate in talent shows (elementary and High Schools).  If such an occasion arises, or if there is an invitation to perform anywhere else, we will be glad to help students prepare and practice their material - just give us a little notice.

The School participates in annual parades - as always, students’ participation is completely voluntary.  Dancers will be required to wear uniform attire for such events.  In particular, the outdoor activities require the School sweatshirt worn over navy-blue skirt or pants, indoor activities require the class costume.  (Click here to see sweatshirts and other Cara School items for sale.)

The School will hold an annual Ceili - a family party with music and dance for all, once a year.  This is a great opportunity for family and friends to see the class perform in a non-competitive environment.

Dancers will be given the opportunity to prepare for Irish-Dancing competitions known as Feisanna (Feis is the singular form). A typical Feis season starts in February and runs through October.  Decisions as to who enters a Feis (and when) will be a joint effort between students and teachers. Competing is completely voluntary - no one has to compete if they don’t feel ready or don’t have the desire. Everyone has the option to regard their dancing experience as purely recreational. Those who wish to compete can do so once the teacher makes the determination that he/she is ready. This determination is made on a case-by-case basis, and the best way to accelerate the process is to continue with at-home practice and to attend class regularly.      Margy, Maureen and Annmarie are available to address any questions or concerns and can be contacted by phone or email and / or after class. As with any teacher / parent relationship it is important to communicate openly and honestly on a regular basis.

We encourage everyone to stay informed about Irish Dance and intend to provide feedback and correspondence regularly.  There are many valuable sources of information on the internet and at bookstores which may also be helpful.
