vs. Toronto Blue Jays

  • Block party and entertainment at each gate from 5:15-6:15PM

  • The Cara School will dance at the main gate (Citizen's Bank Way) with a live band (since we were the 2008 parade winner) from 5:15-6:15.

  • On field performance at 6:30PM (9 minutes), all dance schools together (Cara, Campbell, Coyle, Cummins, Gibson, Lynn, McDade, McHugh, Rince Ri,Timoney...)

  • Performance with the Phanatic (2 dancers per school), 5th inning and again 7th inning on the dugouts.

TICKETS:
It will probably be more fun if we all get a block of tickets in the same area--if you would like to sit with the group in the $16 seats, please email me with the number of tickets that you need and then bring the ticket money to dance class (we will submit one lump payment for the $16 seats). If you are interested in alternate/more expensive seating options, please email me for those details. There are seats available for $16 thru $27.50 in various sections. The Ticket order must be placed by Thursday of this week, MAY 8th.

Tell your friends, relatives and neighbors/ There are plenty of tickets and the Cara School will receive a portion of each ticket price which we can use toward future parade fees and productions (as this entire Irish heritage night is being organized by Michael Bradley and the members of the Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Observance Association) .

DANCERS:
We will need the name of each dancer who wishes to participate. Please email names along with your ticket order ASAP. We need to provide a list and headcount to the event organizers. Look for more details later throughout this week.

2008 Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade

Congratulations to all of the Cara families who were involved in making our parade presentation so wonderful. We are very very proud of all of the strong dancers who practiced so hard and who marched through the winds and cold weather yesterday. You all looked great and did a wonderful job representing the Cara School!  There were many wonderful dance groups participating in the parade and we are very proud to have been chosen as the BEST CHILDREN'S IRISH DANCE GROUP.

November 30, 2007: Congratulations to the Cara School Regional Oireachtas dancers! The Cara dancers, once again, did a great job at the Mid Atlantic Regional Championships!! There were over 1,300 dancers competing at the event and the level of competition was very strong. Dancers come from all over the region (Buffalo to Delaware) for this annual championship.

Perhaps the biggest achievement of the weekend came on Sunday when two Cara dancers qualified to compete at the World Championship in Belfast, Ireland next March. Huge congratulations to Patrick Hegarty and Catherine West who will be the first two solo dancers to represent the Cara School at the World Championship!! Both of these dancers competed in the Under 10 age category - the youngest age category eligible for the World Championships.

Twelve Cara dancers received SOLO championship medals:

Patrick Hegarty -- 2nd under 10 boys -- World Qualifier

Aine Sheehan-- 3rd under 9 (out of 100)

Henry Schaffer-- 9th under 10

Billy Hegarty -- 8th under 13

Brendan Ryan -- 9th under 12

Catherine West -- 11th under 10 (out of 100) -- World Qualifier

Megan Smith -- 28th under 16 (out of 140 or so)

Kerrie Flynn -- 30th under 10 (out of 100)

Maggie Larkin -- 47th under 8 (out of 112)

Trish Connelly -- 48th under 15 (out of 128)

Kristen Richers -- 58th under 15 (out of 128)

25 Cara teams received medals in ceili dancing competitions. Congratulations to all of our teams!!! Click here to see all the team results.

We are very proud of the efforts of every Cara dancer and we look forward to 2008 with pride and confidence. We will have representation beyond the Mid Atlantic Region - at the All-Ireland Championships (Killarney, Ireland) in February, the World Championships (Belfast, Ireland) in March and at the North American Championships (Nashville, TN USA) in July. Congratulations to all who have qualified for these upcoming events. And, thank you (in advance) to all who will help to support the dancers through fundraising efforts!

September 13, 2007: Well, I got some of it right - my source was not a good one I'm afraid, as far as the name...... The beautiful baby girl is now named Julianna Kathryn Grant. Same great baby, new great name.

September 11, 2007: Veronica Grant was born at 5:18AM on September 11, 2007.  She is a healthy 8lbs and 11 ounces and 21.5 inches long. Congratulations to Margy, John, Rita, Joseph,MaryRose and Colm!!

September 10, 2007: It seems like it would be best to make one more change to the class schedule.  On Saturdays we are going to place the group dancing class in the 2PM-3PM time slot and the champ class (that was 2PM-4:30PM this past Sat.) in the 3PM-5:30 timeslot. We hope this will be convenient to the dancers who are in the 11:30 and 12:30 classes (so they don't have to wait around so long for their group class) and also to the prelim and open champ dancers who can now do the group dancing class immediately before their solo class.
The revised schedule will go into effect this upcoming Saturday (9/15). Please spread the word if you have a friend or classmate who might not be great at checking their email. Thank You!

May 25, 2007: Aside from the one remaining Wednesday in May, our Irish Dancing season 2006-2007 has come to an end and teachers would like to thank all of our supportive families for their participation.  There are no classes this Friday or Saturday - enjoy the Memorial Day holiday weekend. While no weekly classes were originally planned for this summer, the following will be offered:

  • In Springfield on June 2nd there will be classes offered according to the regular schedule as a make-up for registered Drexel Hill and Springfield students.  Others may attend for a $10 charge.
  • Beginner thru Prize winner level dancers who would like to attend solo practice sessions on Wednesdays in June in Edgmont are welcome.  There will be two options: 4:30-5:30PM and 5:30-6:30PM .
  • Please email if you are interested so that we can split the interested dancers appropriately. These classes will only be offered if there is enough interest.  The cost is $10 per lesson (same rate as last summer).
  • All levels are welcome to attend Aston on Saturdays June 2nd, June 9th, and June 16th from 9:30-11: 30am .  For registered Aston students who did not make up the missed days from March and May, there will be no charge.  For other students the cost will be $40 for the month.
  • In response to many requests, the Oxford class will continue on the 5 Fridays in June from 5:30-6:30 for 1st and 2nd year students and from 5:30-7:30 for advanced level dancers.  In July and August class night will move to Thursday but the times will remain the same.  There will be no class on Thursday, July 5th and the last class of the summer will be Thursday, August 9th. Tuition will be collected monthly and will be $40.
  • There are two daytime camps offered by Cara School teachers.  The first will be July 16th - 20th in Drexel Hill; the second, July 30th -August 3rd in Edgmont .  Please click here for prices, times, registration, and addresses.
  • There is a possibility that a group-dance camp and possibly an evening solo dance camp will be added in August. We will let you know those details if/when they materialize.

Thank you all for a great 2006-2007 dance season!
